The crops of this Sub-District are corn and cotton. small grain is not much raised of late years The Freedpeople work mostly for one half of the crop and feed themselves, or one third and furnished provisions and all things necessary for farming purposes

"Include in your Report the operations of the State laws as applied to freed people, with special reference to the Apprentice Law, Vagrant Law, and Law regulating labor."
The State Law has heretofore secured but little justice to the Freedpeople. The apprentice law has been applied to freed people with great injustice in many instances Parents have been defied and their children taken from them without their consent. The vagrant law seems to be a dead letter.
