"Report the disposition and feeling of the white people towards the freed people as expressed by words and actions."
The disposition and feelings of the union people towards the freed people is generally friendly, but the rebels are mostly unfriendly, and some of them are bitterly and cruelly opposed to them, unwilling to allow them any privileges, and that ill feeling is kept up by a trifling newspaper published in this place, as I send a copy.

EDUCATION.
"Report the feeling upon the subject of education; what steps have been taken to promote the same; what efforts the freed people are making in that direction and in what manner they may be assisted, &c &c"
The freedpeople appear to have much interest upon the subject of education, have commenced to build a school house, have a lot, and have a frame up 25 by 30 feet, and are now siding it up, and covering it, and will shortly have it completed, if their funds hold out, they may get some assistance from the Citizens of this place, but not much, I apprehend.

I have furnished them with the sash, glazed and Blinds, and $33.00 specie, and 2000 shingles.

If they could be assisted with about $100.00 or $150.00 currency, with the assistance they may get here of the Citizens, with what they may be able to raise themselves, they could have the house soon completed and fit for use.
