EDUCATION.

"Report the feeling upon the subject of education; what steps have been taken to promote the same; what efforts the freed people are making in that direction and in what manner they may be assisted, &c., &c."
The People now generally express themselves in favor of Educating the Freed People to enlighten them so they may make better citizens, they are not willing to be taxed to educate the Freedpeople But are willing for the Freedmen to educate themselves

The Freed People is anxious to educate their children but they are poor and vary much scattered and it is difficult to obtain moore than 20 pupils at a place and teachers is scarce. I am at a loss to know how they can be taught untill the State Legislature provides for their Tuition which I believe will be done when we have a Loyal Legislature which I hope we will have some time during 1868
