"Give a statement of the official business transacted during the month; its nature and your method of disposing of the same. State your office hours; the number of days absent from office, if any, and reason for the same."

My business during the month, has been chiefly effecting settlements between Planters and Freedman, for the present year, collecting claims for feedmen and arranging their contracts for the next year. I have been very busy this month, and will be until the last of February. My office hours ae from 9 A.M. till 4 P.M. but I have worked until dark nearly every day this month. I have been absent from my office, this month 9 days accompanying Col. Lindair to Sumpter, Trinity County.

"State the number of Troops at your Post and the necessity for the same; whether or not the freed people would be secure if they were removed; in other words will the civil authorities protect them and give them justice; &c. &c."

There are three soldiers stationed at this Post. The necessity for their presence is to assist me in my duties and execute my orders & long experience has taught me, and it is a well established fact, that the present set of Civil Officers in this town and County will not give the Freedmen Justice, unless a wholesome fear of a superior law compels them.
