"Report the disposition and feeling of the white people towards the freed people as expressed by words and actions."

[[strikethrough]] There are not many that show the disposition they should toward the ignorant colored man. Many do not know or do not care what becomes of them. As to extending to them the [[?]] encouragement that would put them on the track to make an honest living. There are too many that do not do so. [[/strikethrough]]

Not only this morning a freedman came into my office with blood all over his shirt where one W.A. Shaw a large planter on Red River had struck him on the head. The sheriff holds a Black man in custody now, whome "Edward," Rosser beat over the Head, & made large soars, & then came & had him, arrested, where the case is taken into the courts, it is put off in one way and another,

EDUCATION
"Report the feeling upon the subject of education; what steps have been taken to promote the same; what efforts the freed people are making in that direction and in what manner they may be assisted, &c., &c."

The colored people will not be able from their means, to do anything, towards building school houses, or churches, until they raise another crop, or are assisted by some Benevolent society, or the Government.
