| 1867 Dec 17 | Wilson Carey (Col) | P.G. Young (White) | Carey his wife and two colored women worked on Young's place for one half the crop, they furnishing their own provisions. Carey was owing Young nearly 200 dollars for goods furnished by Young (who kept a store) the year before Young was afraid that Carey would not pay and after a hearing of the case examining the accounts &c. I decided that Carey should pay Young what he got for his share of the cotton. His decision did not suit Young who wanted the cotton raised by all the hands to pay Carey's indebtedness and he got out an attachment quietly and all the cotton was seized by the Sheriff. On hearing of it I send out a squad of soldiers, and seized the share of cotton belonging to the other hands and turned it over for them, - leaving Careys share for Young. |
