No cases have been tried during the month with the exception of one trial by the Mayor of Navasota as ex officer magistrate viz

John Joslyn (fm) was arrested upon the charge of assault with intent to kill, It is claimed that this man with others halted four white men while passing in the highway, firing several shots from muskets (see affidavits enclosed) I investigated the matter, and believe the facts are as follows  The freedmen held a meeting known as the loyal league, hearing that the meeting would be broken up, the freedmen carried they arms with them and  foolishly place armed sentinels around the house  The sentrys firing their muskets every few minutes  These men were stopped and not allowed to go near the meeting, the following day made complaint before Mayor - Jones of Navasota who bound the Deft over in the Dist Court in the sum of $300,  As this case was [[reparted?]] to
