"Give a statement of the official business transacted during the month; its nature and your method of disposing of the same. State your office hours; the number of days absent from office, if any, and reason for the same."

During the month of February 1868, I have been engaged in examining and approving contracts for the year 1868; and in settling accounts for the year 1867.

My office hours are from 8 to 12 A.M. and from 2 to 5 P.M. I have not been absent during the month of Febry 68.

"State the number of Troops at your Post and the necessity for the same; whether or not the freed people would be secure if they were removed; in other words will the civil authorities protect them and give them justice; &c., &c."

The troops have been withdrawn in the course of February. I am in need of some assistance, the whites feeling very hostile towards me since the election.

The few civil officers are satisfied with doing nothing No District Court will be held there being no District Clerk, as I previously reported. The County Judge is not competent, (to use a very moderate term.)
