"Give a statement of the official business transacted during the month; its nature and your method of disposing of the same. State your office hours; the number of days absent from office, if any, and reason for the same."

The business of the Office has been of the same general character as reported for the proceeding month, and has been disposed of in the same manner. There has been much less business transacted in the Office for the reason that both myself and my assistant Lt. Van Horne have been sitting as members of a General Court Martial, and have not consequently been able to give our attention to Bureau affairs: all cases coming before me that could be so disposed of, I have sent to a Civil Magistrate for adjudication. Office hours from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M. Have not been absent from the Post during the month.
"State the number of Troops at your Post and the necessity for the same; whether or not the freed people would be secure if they were removed; in other words will the civil authorities protect them and give them justice; &c., &c."
