wounded with pistol shots. No action taken by the Civil Authoritys On the 11th day of Feb. 1868 a difficulty occured at Navasota in which H.C. Searcey a lawyer, was shot in the head by one _ Mc Kinney a notorious desperado. The substance is as follows. Mc Kinney - beeing intoxicated had threatened several citizens during the day in fact had become a terror to the community. Meeting _ Searcey he publicly insulted him threatening to shoot him using his revolver in a very careless manner. Searcey armed himself and while passing into a store was fired upon by Mc Kinney the ball taking affect in the left temple inflicting a very dangerous wound. His recovery is doubtfull. Mc Kinney was immediately arrested and taken to the Co Jail at Anderson. Subsequently while in hands of a Special [[strikethrough]] deepty [[/strikethrough]] deputy Sherriff who was conducting the prisoner to Navasota for trial, Mc Kinney was taken from the deputy by force by about 40 or 50 men, and hung the
