"Report the disposition and feeling of the white people towards the freed people as expressed by words and actions."

A general feeling of hostility is expressed towards the freed people, especially those who took an active part in the late election, in several instanses open rupture growing out of these causes, many threats were made against the Officers of election, voters, [[Leaguers?]], &c.

EDUCATION.
"Report the feeling upon the subject of education; what steps have been taken to promote the same; what efforts the freed people are making in that direction and in what manner they may be assisted, &c., &c."

There is considerable opposition in the town of Bryan in regard to freed schools, I find no opposition at other places in the Dist.  The freedmen generally are anxious to school their children.  A school will be opened at Bryan in a few days.  I hope to make it effisent.  The school at Anderson is well attended.  The teacher is not properly qualified but was the best that could be procured.  The school at Navasota taught by a freedmen is very poorly attended, considerable advancement has been made by the pupills.  They may be best assisted by competent teachers being furnished, without this is done, their schools will be worthless
