prevented by some men present, his name - or - at least he says his name is Woodyard, he had a companion with him.  They ware both soon arrested by the Sheriff, But Weave as he called himself soon after his arrest made his escape Woodyard is still a prisner. The Sheriff has also caught - or - has had another man delivered to him to day charged and convicted of Theft, this last named prisner was arrested in the upper part of this county I do not recollect his name, I feel truly proud to see our citizens proveing a disposition to protect and inforce the civil Law, a precedent that has not been carried out strictly in this cuntry for at least six years. The Freedmen as a general thing are doing very well, I hear but few complaints as yet, I have not assess or collected any money pertaining to the B.R.F. & A.L. from any cause whatever, and none was turned over to me with the office consequently I have noe [[none]] in my hands up to date March 31st A D 1868
