The Civil Authorities of Falls County ask me to remain in Marlin three days in each month to settle accounts, approve contracts, and to attend to such cases as these, as the F.M.C. in many instances are not able to pay the costs of civil suits and they often times lie in jail awaiting trial because they can not get bail.

The offenses in many cases are slight and are usually prosecuted to make the F.M. trouble & cost.
The cost in case one is convicted, about Forty Dolls, besides paying his own council.
