In compliance with Circular Letter dated Headquarters, Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands, State of Texas, Galveston, December 31, 1866, I have the honor to submit the following Report for the month ending 31 March 1868.

Crimes against freedmen is almost of daily occurrence and but little is done by the civil authorities to check it. In fact the civil officers fear to do their duty as the mass of whites are opposed to the protection of the law being extended to the freedpeople

The following murders and attempts at assassination were committed in this Sub-District during the past month

March 2" Joseph Pruitt (fr) was shot and killed in Jefferson Marion Co by a Mr Wilson. The accused was examined before a Justice of the Peace and discharged
