There is much less said and done against the freed people since the excitement of the election has subsided, it is bad enough yet,

EDUCATION.
"Report the feeling upon the subject of education, what steps have been taken to promote the same; what efforts the freed people are making in that direction and in what manner they may be assisted, etc., etc."

There is considerable interest felt among the freed people. [[?]] to hold a meeting in each school precinct once a month for the purpose of impressing them with the necessity of keeping up the schools and paying the teacher. It is a difficult matter to get good teachers and they are very poorly paid. There is a general call in these schools for Books they may be assisted by being furnished with good teachers, and books. The large majority of scholars in these schools are orphans and are not able to furnish even books
