The freedman had been arrested for stealing hogs, had escaped from jail, rearrested, and gaurded in a Store by some of the City cus. of Homer, the gaurd I suppose had too much Whiskey, and they slept and when they awoke their prisoner had vamoused together with $175.00 in gold & $100.00 in currency in passing Cheseland the f.m.c. tried to purchase a revolver, the people seeing he had money, followed him and murdered him.
