It is claimed that $500. in coin was found by a freedman Wesley that Wesley made way with a portion of it but on being threatened with arrest he gave up the balance, and claiming that Wm Perry took the balance about $300, to keep for him, Perry was bound over to the County Court for trial by jury. |

During the month while a company of Infantry on route for the frontier, and while quartered in Bryan some two or three days, about twenty soldiers armed and proceeded to Freedmenville and commenced firing at every Freedmen that came in their range, directing their fire particular at the School House (Freedmens) breaking up the school, they saying the Freedmen should have no school. The freed people collected together and exchanged shots wounding two soldiers, and two Freedmen. I was absent at the time in the lower part of the Dist. Troubles of this kind are frequent occurrence when troops are passing
