| April 24th | Thos. Lawson White. | D.S. Hornsacker. White. | Attempt to assassinate; did not know Hornsacker, but connects Hornsacker's residence, and asked his name, on being answered "Hornsacker", drew six shooter and shot at Hornsacker three times. Hornsacker fired in return, wounding the assassin who then left. Lawson was aided and advised by several others, a coward by attempt to assassinate a quiet citizen while sitting in his own door in the town of Sumpter about 3 o'clock P.M. Friday, April 24th 1868. No action taken by the civil authorities. No arrests. Lawson is at large. |
