The persons injured are the "Skulkers and deserters" from the Rebel army.  The same old story, The Union men are accused of trying to incite the negroes to murder the whites, of stealing cattle.  The criminals proceeded to the neighborhood of the persons injured, and run them into the woods, declaring their intention to hang them. The sheriff of Hill County (Late Lieut C.S.A. ) tried to shoot Morgan Bond, when he was in the custody of the Sheriff, he also hurt one of the witnesses severely because he would not swear what the Sheriff wanted the witness to swear. |
