EDUCATION.
"Report the feeling upon the subject of education; what step have been taken to promote the same; what efforts the freed people are making in that direction, and in what manner they may be assisted, &c."

There seems to be very little interest upon this subject No steps seems to have been taken to establish any schools among the Freedmen. The freedmen are very poor and the whites seem to take no interest in their welfare, on the contrary the prejudice against educating the Negro is as active today as before the war. I have tried to get the Freedmen in Many localities to give me some substantial appearance that they will try to support [[strikethrough]] a [[/strikethrough]] schools 
I think I shall succeed in a few places
