Benj F. Griffith a desperado came into Clarksville about sundown and robbed a man named Charles Depes of a revolver stated his party Bickenstaff Baker and English would soon be along. That he came for a sow that his party killed three Yankees and four negros and burned some commissary wagons down at Sulphur Springs. Was armed with three revolvers and a double barrel gun and after some conversation made off saying "Look out Niggers."
I followed him with horsemen, overtook him a mile from town, ordered him to halt, and he refusing had to be killed.
