"Report the feeling upon the subject of education; what steps have been taken to promote the same; what efforts the freed people are making in that direction, and in what manner they may be assisted. &c."

the feeling upon the Subject of Education is Limited to two classes the Loyal Man and the Land Owners the former are desirous to have the Freedmen Educated but fear to take such steeps except in a Secrete way the Freedpeople are very desirous to have Schools and too often I hear remarks being made by poor freedmen that they would like to educate their Children but they have not the means and unless aid is given them I fear the work of establishing Schools in my Sub District must fail I have
