'Report the disposition and feeling of the white people towards the freed people, as expressed by words and actions."

With the mass of the people, the feeling is good.

EDUCATION.

"Report the feeling upon the subject of education; what steps have been taken to promote the same; what efforts the freed people are making in that direction, and in what manner they may be assisted. &c."

In Tyler the school has been given up, the school mistress having vacated her position, not being able to collect amt due her for tuition - many of the Freedmen being five months in arrears.

A proof or interest does not appear to be maintained by the colored people in keeping up their schools.

With reference to schools in other parts of this Sub - District, I am uninformed, my time having been so much occupied by other duties and the nature of my duties preventing me from moving around the district.
