Seeking Site For Public Library
PORTSMOUTH—As soon as a practical site can be found, Portsmouth will definitely get a colored library, it was stated this week by City Manager Arthur S. Owens.

After a recent conference with a special committee of citizens, headed by Mrs. Cornelia Reid, the city manager tentatively agreed to establish library facilities at the Portsmouth USO Club, but, after inspection of available space there, decided that this location would not be suitable.

Meanwhile, the library committee is giving the city manager its cooperation in the problem of selecting a suitable site. There is a possibility that a small building may be erected to house the library, it was learned.

In Portsmouth Recital Sunday
PORTSMOUTH — The United States Navy Band of the Naval Training School of Hampton Institute, under the direction of Ernest B. Wilkins, musician, first class, will be presented in concert Sunday afternoon at three o'clock at the Portsmouth USO Club.

The Portsmouth Recreation Association, sponsors of the affair, was busy with final plans for the concert this week. This event comes as the first in a proposed series of public recreational events planned by the association, according to Lee F. Rodgers, president.

The program Sunday afternoon will also include interval solos by Mrs. Mozelle Brown and Mrs. Eunice D. Wilkins.

The naval band, having all colored musicians, has been well received in frequent concerts during recent months on the Hampton campus. Its appearance in Portsmouth is expected to draw a [[? guess - word cut off]] huge crowd.

Girls of the Junior Library Guild, an affiliate of the USE Club, will serve as ushers for the concert. Members of the band will be served refreshments at the USO Club.
