C. Powell Minnigerode, Esq.,
Assistant Director, Corcoran Gallery of Art.
Washington D.C.

Dear Sir:

I am this morning in receipt of a letter from Mr. Charles L. Freer, dated "Shanghai, January 13th," acknowledging receipt of my letter to him of December 12th, in which I advised him that I had received $41.56 from the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. in settlement of a bill which I had rendered for the cost of telegraphing and cabling in connection with the borrowing of pictures from Mr. Freer for the Corcoran Gallery exhibition which opened November 26th last.

Mr. Freer left Detroit early in August last for an extended trip to the Orient, and in his absence the bill was sent you. Mr. Freer tells me that this bill should not have been sent you and instructs me to refund the amount received from you. Accordingly, I have pleasure in handing you, enclosed herewith, a draft on Washington, payable to the order of the Corcoran Gallery of Art, for $41.56.

Will you be good enough to receipt and return Mr. Freer's voucher to

Very truly yours,

(Signed) George W. Alger

Encls.
