Gentlemen:

Under date of February 1th, Mr. Richard Rathbun, Assistant Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, in charge of the United States National Museum, enclosed to me a report of the Superintendent of the Museum on the eleven (11) makimono cases made by you for Mr. Charles L. Freer, which he states were received in Washington between January 31st and February 16th, 1911, and I beg to hand you a copy of this report enclosed herewith.

After a very careful reading of the above report, I find that the only question at variance with Mr. Freer's order given you would seem to be in the large show case which is made in three sections and the height of the show cases which are made 16 inches wide.

Regarding the large show case made in three sections: This show was ordered 36 feet 6 inches long, but the report says that the length is 2 and 1/4 inches greater; that is, 36 feet 8-1/4 inches long; and that the plate glass in the shorter section of this show case has been broken which has damaged the sloping shelf; also that the metal sash for the glass in all three sections of this case is reported to be very poorly finished.
