Your favor of the 27th inst, has our careful attention. Regarding the measurement, we had already been advised by Mr. Rathbun of the error in measurement.
As to the question of height, we enclose two sketches sent to us by Mr. Freer, giving the location of the "roll holders at the ends, also showing how the 16" and 18" widths were to be taken. You will notice that Mr. Freer himself also has taken the narrower case lower than the wider case, so that the fronts of both width cases would line up uniformly. You will note from this that our cases are made in conformity with the ideas of Mr. Freer himself and that there is no mistake on our part. In special work of this kind, it is impossible to take all details from correspondence without referring to sketches which supplement and explain details much better than could be done with pages of specifications.
While we note Mr. Freer's early return, we regret that this matter is to be held awaiting advices from Kioto, as our
