Inclosures SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION UNITED STATES NATIONAL MUSEUM WASHINGTON, D.C. OFFICE OF ASSISTANT SECERETARY, SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION IN CHARGE U.S. NATIONAL MUSEUM March 7, 1911. Mr. George W. Alger, 915 Union Trust Building, Detroit, Michigan. My dear Sir: Your letter of the 27th ultimo, relative to the makimono cases, reached me in due season, and I re-ferred it to our Superintendent for information for making a reply. He had already reported on the matter and I had his memorandum before me when your second letter, of the second instant, arrived yesterday. I enclose a copy of the memorandum and also the sketch to which it refers. It seems to us that the dimensions of all these cases are correct. You will notice that the only criticism relates to the finish of the metal work on the one largest case. Very truly yours, R. Rathbun Assistant Secretary in charge of National Museum.
