Dear Mr. Alger:
While at the office of the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution on the 2nd instant, I was shown the books of the Institution and shown by the chief accountant expenditures equaling $325.79 made for my account in matters of freight and other incidental expenses on shipments made from various points and by various parties for my account with the Institution. Hence, of the $500. sent them some time ago, they still have on hand of my money $174.21.
I think it wise to send them a draft to-day for $250. additional. This will provide funds for such shipments as I may make during the next twelve months.

Yours truly,
Charles L. Freer
