Dear Jordan:

During the last two years Mr. Elbridge Kingsley has been devoting much of his time to engraving one of the large landscapes entitled “Spring Time” painted by Mr. Tryon for my house. Mr. Kingsley came to Detroit last week and spent a couple of days with me and brought a few trial proofs from the block. We have decided that it is impossible for him to carry the block any further. It is doubtless his most delightful work yet accomplished, and tomorrow the block will be sent to Mr. J.C. Bauer, wood cut printer, 26 Frankfort St., New York City, who is to print 50 impressions and later perhaps more if the block will stand it. Now I want you to do me the kindness to go to Mr. Bauer’s place and get the proofs when they are ready. He will advise you when to call. On receipt of the notice, will you kindly take the proofs from his place to yours and care for them nicely until Messrs. Tryon and Kingsley have a chance to sign them. None of these proofs will be for sale but I hope you will do me the pleasure to accept one with my compliments after they have been signed. This work I am sure will interest you because it is doubtless the most artistic piece of reproductive wood engraving yet done.

How are you these days? Very well and happy, I trust.

Yours very truly,
C. L. Freer
