My dear Friend:

Your letter of Aug. 28 reached me a short time ago after my return from your country and Japan. I was very glad indeed to receive your kind letter and to know that you were enjoying good health. It also gave me satisfaction to be informed that the Russian lady sent you the book as promised. After writing you from Darjeeling I met the lady again on board steamer going from Calcutta to Colombo, and I learned to admire her considerably.

While in New York recently I found nice copies of Omar Kahyam and Longfellow, both of which were sent to you direct by mail. I hope they will reach you safely and that they will give you much pleasure.

I have been making inquiries concerning bicycles and find that they cost from $65.00 to $110.00 each, the difference in cost depending very much upon the design and finish. I do not use a bicycle myself, so I scarcely know which to recommend. I fancy however one costing in the neighborhood of $75.00 would prove thoroughly serviceable.

Magic lanterns, like bicycles, differ very much in price. I was surprised to learn that they can be purchased as low as $3.00 and as high as $500.00. The best manufacturer in this country is T. H. McAllister, 49 Nassau St., New York, and I have written him to send to you direct a catalogue of lanterns and slides as well. Inclosed herewith you will find one of his bulletins, which will interest you, but his large catalogue will be much more complete and explicit.

Harmoniums also vary greatly in price. I think a very good one could be purchased for about $50.00. I shall send you under separate cover pamphlets describing those most generally used in this country, which will enable you to understand the prices and conditions more accurately
