Many thanks for your note of the 16th inst. inclosing clipping from the “Chicago Tribune” concerning the “Ulster County Gazette” of Saturday, Jan. 4, 1800.

Sorry to learn that the steam shovel business is not what it used to be. I note your remarks concerning work in other directions and if I hear of anything to your advantage, you can rest assured that I shall promptly advise you. Col. Hecker is now in China but is expected home about the first of June.
