Mr. K. Sano,
9 West 103rd St.,
New York City.

Dear Mr. Sano:

I have your esteemed letter of the 8th inst., also the charming old screen by Mitsunari, and thank yu [you] for both. The screen is a beautiful specimen not only of the work of a great painter but also of other national characteristics – architecture, gardens, and costumes. I shall prize it for these qualities but especially as a token of your friendship.

Mr. Fukushima favored me with a ten minute visit this morning, but unfortunately found me on an extremely busy day and I regret exceedingly that I could not see more of him. However, I now expect to be in New York next week, when I hope for the pleasure of seeing both yourself and Mr. Fukushima.

I shall send you by express to-morrow a little gift for Mrs. Sano -- which I mentioned to you recently in New York -- and beg you to present it to her with my most cordial greetings and respectful consideration of the courtesies received in your home during the time of my visit in Tokio.

Wishing you continued health and happiness, I remain,

Yours very faithfully,
Charles L Freer
