Nov. 3/96.

Mr. J. L. Smyser, Personal
Pres’t, Ohio Falls Car Co.,
Jeffersonville, Ind.

My dear Sir:

We acknowledge receipt of your letter dated Nov. 1 in reference to establishing a standard 60,000 lb. box car. Knowing you as well as I do, I do not hesitate to express briefly my personal views on this subject such as I care to give to very few if any competitors.

It seems to me that, should a standard 60,000 lb. box car be established by the car-builders without an established price for same, a great amount of injury to the car-building interest might follow. I am quite sure that it is entirely unnecessary for me to detail the thoughts in my mind. Surely you understand and appreciate them from various points of view. Am I not right?

Yours very truly,
Charles L. Freer
Managing Director.
