| Jan. 2 | Johnson, Isaac.  Capt. & S.A. Comr.  See E.B. page 235. | 35. La Grange, Texas, Dec. 26, 1866. Acknowledges receipt of telegram in reference to cotton of J. L. Gay. States that by the enclosed contract the freedmen were entitled to a share of the crop, that the Manager took a lighted candle into the Gin House after such an act had been protected against by Mr. Gay and the freedmen and that the Gin House and 49 0or 50 Bales were burned. Thinks Mr. Gay is responsible to the freedmen for their portion of the cotton burned but asks for instructions. (One Enclosure.)
