| April 25" | Morrison, Jno H. Sub. Asst. Comr  (See E.B. 367. P) | 281.  Palestine, Texas. Apl. 17th 1867  Transmits statement of W H. King, Anderson County Texas "About 1st of Sept. 1863. W. L. Derden 4th Texas, Infantry Co. "K." returned to this County from his Command and acknowledged to many persons, that he had Killed 3 officers and wounded 2. Says Lieut. Martin was taken prisoner, and turned States Witness against him (Derden) and consequently he was obliged to leave for Texas, where he came with a Furlough in another name. Derden said on his return that he heard $3000.00 was offered for his arrest, and therefore he did not return to his command. About the 15th or 20" July 1866, Said Derden shot a freedman named Lewis Maynry with a double barrelled shot Gun. disabling him for 6 months. Shooting took place in the of W. H. King who believes Derden to be a dangerous man." |

| April 29 | Mayer, A. H. S.A. Comr  (EB P. 371) | 284.  Liberty - Apl. 26" 1867  States he was authorized to purchase chairs for use of this office and not being able to secure any in Liberty he forwarded order to Messrs Maier & Co. Galveston, and authorized them to purchase from Saulir & Co. and states further that they now hold at Head Qrs that chairs had been previously provided and paid for. |

|April 29 | Murray Jno. T. County Attorney (EB 372) | 285.  Rusk, Cherokee County, Texas. March 13" 1867  States Robt. Tinnmin has never permitted the negroes formerly his Slaves to leave him, that they are now held under contracts which they were forced to sign, and that they are harshly treated having been whipped by him several times. States that a (fw) named Sarah Lucy formerly his slave) hired out her two children for $100 a year each, and he forced them back to work for him. Also thro' misrepresentation he had some children bound to him under the Apprentice law. |

W Young and States that he has proved himself to be more qualified for the position he holds as Teacher F.S. than he had anticipated, but that he "Young" is much dissatisfied — on account of Salary not meeting his anticipations $40 00/100 as he judged Cir No "12" Feby 7th BRF &c Head Quarters Galveston, and furthermore states that he and his wife are compelled to eat, sleep and teach in the same room. That from a letter from Mr Wheelock, J. S. he supposed the School to be opened under the auspices of the Bureau, finds from his - (Wheelocks) implications that it is private" |

Apl. 30th 1867  Reports of Articles and Persons hired for month of Ap'l. 1867. - Certified accounts of Salary for teachers and Clerks, and also for office rent. States that he has not taken up the name of Mr Sloan (teacher) on his report for this month. |
 
| May 8 | Mason, Jno. S. Bvt. Brig. Gen. S.A. Comr  See E.B. 386. | 288.  San Antonio, Texas, May 2, 1867.  States the building known as the Duff property is used by the Q.M. Dept. for a Hospital and is reported at no fixed rate. Recommends that it be continued to be occupied for the same purpose but at a rental of $100 per month. |
