States no instructions, orders or any other official communication has been received in regard to the removal of Miss Mary Wilder. Wishes to know how he can certify to the correctness of his accounts without being notified when changes take place. Is ignorant of the amount of service rendered by Miss Wilder and is unable to obtain her signature to the receipt roll. |

States that two freedmen named Sam Johnson and Dick Taylor had a quarrel and Johnson afterwards concealed himself and shot and killed Taylor as he was going by on a load of wood. Taylor has been captured and turned over to the sheriff for keeping. Asks if the General has any special instructions. |

| May 8 | Porter, Byron. Sub. Asst. Comr. See E.B. 384. | 134.  Bastrop, Texas. May 4, 1867.  States that A. D. McGinnis, Atty. for Lane, has shipped the cotton of Dr. J. H. Lane including the 11 bales levied upon by Capt. Coggeshall. The cotton was marked A.D. and shipped to the house of A. J. Ward & Co. at Galveston. Asks that Eleven bales be seized and held until settlement is made. |

| May 10 | Pease, Wm B. Bvt. Lt. Col. Sub. Asst. Comr.  E.B. page 390. | 135. Houston, Texas. May 8, 1867. Mr. B. V. Natquren. (white) has represented to him that he is in poor health and wishes to leave the state; that some time ago he let __ Smith. (white) have his horse to use for the keeping of him, but afterwards sold him the horse for $150 receiving $50;  he has since asked him for the remaining $100, but Smith will pay him only $50 charging $50 for the keeping of the horse.
The matter was laid before a reliable magistrate who thought Smith would demand a jury and thinks it difficult to impannel one. Also thinks Smith will take advantage of the Stay law. Col. Pease wishes instructions if he is to interfere. |
