Texas July 18th 1867  States that John Burke prosecuting Atty, Harrison County, murdered a man in Marshall, subsequently tendered his resignation as Pros. Attorney, Gov. Throckmorton disapproved of it. Requests the removal of Burke and suggests that if Union men held the offices now occupied by Rebels, that it would control that section of the Country. and aid the freedpeople, further that half the white men that vote, should not be allowed &c. |
