you freed the said Vassar to sign it against his will. It has been decided to be ilegal as the State Law in regard to contract provider that the full consent of the parties concerned must be obtained. Therefore the contract is void and the freedman under the civil law has a perfect right to leave you, as you can have no legal claim upon him or his property

Nany McKane freedwoman makes application to this office for information in regard to her husband "Isaac McKane" with a view to obtain what sum may be due from government as back pay bounty &c
Nancy, cannot give any military history of her husband further than he was enlisted in February 1864 in Capt Haines Co unknown 3d Regt colored and died in hospital in Vicksburg in June or July 1865

It becomes my duty to inform of the death of 1st Lieut J B Blanding who was on duty in this district and was shot in one of the streets of this town on the evening of 30th inst and died from the wounds rec'd this A M about 10 1/2 Oclock

In compliance with requirements of Art 94 Articles of War it becomes my duty to inform you of the death of 1st Lieut J. B Blanding Vet Rec Corps who died in this town from wounds rec'd on the evening of 30th April which caused his death about 10 1/2 Oclock A.M. on the  1st inst
His effects and body have been forwarded to his wife at her request per tele'h  The receipt will be forwarded to your office as soon as recieved from her
I enclose inventory of effects
