Offenders snatched warrant from Sherrif & tore it up. | Went into his store 2 hours before daylight - Beat him with glasses - broke his own gun over his head - plundered his store and carried off his pistol leaving him (Patterson) lifeless. When civil authorities tried to arrest them they defied them - snatched the warrant from his hands and tore it up. J.P. called on bystanders to assist but all united were afraid to arrest them. |   |   |

Oct. 12th 1865 |   | Tried and acquitted! | Was sent by his mother after the child and told to bring it dead or alive - Took her tied her hands behind her dragged her to his horse tied rope round her waist and the other end to ring of saddle - mounted and put spurs to the horse. The child being unable to keep up fell. The horse took fright - ran a long distance kicking the body at every leap leaving her dead - a mass of broken flesh and bones. |   |
