Some of the pupil's are far enough advanced to begin with the first & second Graders but they have no books & their Parents are unable to buy them
There are in my neighborhood two children that are roaming through the country at large stealing from the white folks & committing other depredations. These children are fatherless & with your permission I desire to take them in charge & make them work half the time & go to school the other
Freedmen generally are doing tolerable well though the cropps are generally very grassy & cotton sorry. Excuse mistakes if you find any
