I have the honor to state that last evening I received communication from Col Calley written by your direction dated Richmond March 26th 1866. This morning I have had an energetic and capable agent go through Campton making the offer contained in said communication. The people are apparently willing to go to North Carolina and I feel confident of securing the number desired should fair and definite terms be offered. Over fifty evinced such willingness out of a limited number who were addressed on the subject; but they are keen and wary; they put searching, and, I believe just questions which ought to be answered.
