I have mentioned these facts simply to show that we are not inimical to the negros, but that we are willing to aid him and assist him--But the fact is, the negro is poor, without any money-- and generally lazy & wrong ideas about his freedom that freedom means he must not work much.

In conclusion. I will state that I have held out to the negro the advanace of buying this land. The opportunity it would afford them of having a school of their own &c &c One object in writing This is simply to show the animus of us down this part of the South to the Negro.
