To Richard Elman NYC
3 December 1975
Dear Richard:

Received your poem today. It's really fine. Thank you so much.

I was at downtown library today and they had Education in Blood., but I didn't have my library card w/me,or i.d., so they are holding it for me to pick up tomorrow.

Re job possibilities out here, I am not sure what area you meant. From your book jackets, and info from I think, American authors , you've written fiction and non-fiction, taught, and I think was connected with WBAI in New York.

The first reality as you know is the country is in a recession, maybe even a depression. Even when times were good, there always were talented people who worked out here at a lower salary because Calif. and San Francisco are so desirable, so salary wise it's generally lower here than in NY, except perhaps in the academic field. You could probably get a book in the library breaking down colleges and universities geographically,if you are interested in that.

Or you might contact KPFA in Berkeley, the sister station to WBAI,or, KQED TV, the public service station in SF.

If you have some vacation time and are working now, you might come out for a few weeks to make contacts and find out how things are job-wise here. Or if you have the courage and enuff money to make it for a while, you might even take that existential leap, and just come out cold and keep at it until you get a job. What do you want to do jobwise, now? and if that doesn't materialize right away, what would you be willing to do to support yourself in the meantime?

My book will be finished shortly.
Prevail,
