This office is in a very creditable condition. It's records comprise a Book of Letters Sent, of Indorsements, Proceedings of Freedmens Court, full files of orders and instructions, of letters received, and Record of Marriages. These books and records are neatly and systematically kept.

No rations are issued within county to destitutes. Should such issues be made the provisions would be hauled from Yorktown, a distance of forty two (42) miles. The poor of this county are living in Elisabeth City County; govt. can bring them no nearer home than
