My Dear Genl
In case my application for leave shall be approved will you be so kind as to send to me a statement of the number of children attending school in this State and any other information concerning them that may be of interest

My idea is this; to attempt to interest some one in the founding of a large normal school at this Point in order to prepare colored teachers for this, and other states; and the data I ask will be of use.

I am not very sanguine, but the thing is worth trying for and to succeed would be a "big thing." The South will accept & tolerate colored teachers – never the New England girls (in some cases I don't wonder at it)

With Great Respect
I am Yours
