Respectfully returned to Gen. O. Brown. The Am. Missionary Association has no knowledge of this transaction, and I greatly regret that its name has been (by mistake) connected with it. The A.M.A. has never imported hoes for the Freedmen, nor ever directly or indirectly authorized the sale of any goods recd for them from abroad free of duty.
