Bureau Ref F and A Lands
Office Supt 3rd Dist of Va.
Richmond Va. Sept 19th 1866

Respectfully returned to the Asst Comr with the information that Marshal Jones was tried in the "Prov Court" of this city in March last charged with having in his possession stolen property. Dr Jacob P. Harrison (residing three miles below the city of Richmond) being duly sworn testified "that on the night of March 10/66 his barn and hen house, each securely fastened with a pad lock were broken into by a party or parties unknown to him, and a quantity of poultry with a hand saw taken therefrom:- that the property found in the possession of the above named man was the property stolen from his premises." The court found him guilty of "grand larceny" and sentenced him to "one years imprisonment the Va. Penitentiary." — Jones states that he can prove his innocence by a colored man named "Ben," who at the time the property was stolen, was living on Dr. Harrisons farm and from whom he bought the property in question.
