Bureau Refugees. Freedmen & A.L.
Office Sub-Dist. Eastern Shore Va
Drummondtown Va Nov. 26. 1866

Gen. S. C. Armstrong
Sept 5th Dist. Va

General:
I have the honor to report that on Saturday night last, a party of white men, with their faces blacked, broke open the doors of the houses of two Freedmen and carried away with them the fire-arms they found in the houses. One of the Freedmen broke away from his captors, and was fired upon by them, but the shot took effect on one of the whites, who, it is stated, has died from it. There seems to be a determination on the part of the whites to disarm the colored soldiers as soon as they return home. The Magistrates will not try to stop these outrages, and they are becoming more numerous daily. Cant you send me a horse so that I can stop these outrages.

Very respectfully
Your Obdt Servt
