Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands,
Headquarters, Superintendent Fifth District, Va.
Fort Monroe, Va., December 14th 1866

Bvt. Brig. Gen. Brown
A.A.A.G.

General:

I have the honor to invite your attention to the fact that the county of King William is so far out of the way from this office, that it is impossible to do full justice to the interests of freedmen there; that is to say, so far as this office is expected to attend to their affairs: neither can I properly attend the course of the Asst. Supt therein. In view of this I would respectfully request that said county be detached from the district. I have this not be done I should deem it best for the interests of the Bureau to discharge the present Asst. Supt upon, say, the 1st of February 1867. I fear he is rather too much under the influence of the "reconstructed"

I am General
Under deepest Respect
